For Xiaomi, the Mi Band range has been nothing short of a dream run, and there's no doubt that they manage to sell millions of units every year. The Mi Smart Band 5 is the latest in the company's affordable fitness band portfolio and tries to offer a similar package as its predecessors. However, the list of features this time around has increased massively, which means users get more than what they expect.

In all these years, Xiaomi has managed to onboard a lot of users with its Mi Band range, and the all-new Mi Smart Band 5 is the best model so far which means it adds tons of new features to make the deal even sweeter. To name a few, there are Stress monitor, Breathing exercises, and an all-new PAI (personal activity intelligence) index which the company says can analyse users' overall fitness levels. But, if there's one significant change that the company brings with its new Mi Smart Band 5, then it's the new magnetic-based charging setup which resolves numerous requests from users of the previous Mi Bands. We have been using the Mi Smart Band 5 for over a month now and here's what we feel.

Mi Smart Band 5 Review: Design needs a refresh, but it's still functional

The design of the Mi Band has evolved gradually, and we have seen the display getting bigger and brighter. The Mi Smart Band 5 brings a 1.1-inch touch AMOLED colour display which is both brighter than its predecessor and more responsive, in our opinion. However, one thing where the Mi Smart Band 5 might not exactly look like an upgrade in the design department. We won't be incorrect if we say that the Mi Smart Band 5 is a sort of replica of Mi Band 4 and it's high time Xiaomi gives much-needed design refresh to one of its finest products.

Apart from looking very similar to the Mi Band 4, the Mi Smart Band 5 is a lot different in day-to-day usage. We loved the display on the Mi Smart Band 5, which we believed was one of the best we have used under Rs 5,000.

Anyone who has ever used a Mi Band will understand how complex was the charging process which required the user to take the central band unit out of the strap and once the charging is done place it back. It was a tedious process, and we are glad to say that Xiaomi has acknowledged it and how. The all-new magnetic charging is a big step up from previous Mi Bands. As always, the Mi Smart Band 5 is a lot functional in day-to-day usage. Just wear it on your wrist and download the Mi Fit app and get started. The strap material is fantastic and is way better than what we have seen on some fitness trackers and smartwatches under Rs 5,000 in India. Xiaomi yet again sets the benchmark for affordable fitness bands.

Mi Smart Band 5 Review: Display, features, and Battery

The Mi Smart Band 5 features a 1.1-inch AMOLED display with 126x294 pixels screen resolution. The fitness band has a peak brightness of 450 nits which is incredible for the small display panel. The full touch panel has good tactile feedback, and the single touch button works well for waking up and for back function.

Over the years, the Mi Band range has seen some improvements in the display department and the Mi Smart Band 5 gets the same treatment. The display feels more bright than what we saw on the Mi Smart Band 4. The sunlight legibility is excellent, which means you will have no issues while using it under the sun. Anyone who has ever used a Mi Band will understand how complex was the charging process which required the user to take the central band unit out of the strap and once the charging is done place it back.
